Covidien LS1037 – HANDSWITCH, LIGASURE, ATLAS, 37CM, EACH
LigaSure Atlas Tissue Fusion Laparoscopic Instrument
The LigaSure Atlas handset is a single-use instrument with vessel sealing and tissue dividing capabilities. It is targeted for use in general procedures where ligation and division of vessels are performed. A blunt tip vessel sealer and divider, featuring a 37 cm shaft for use in laparoscopic procedures.
The LigaSure Atlas handset has a 20 or 37 cm shaft and is designed to fit down a 10 mm cannula. The shaft can be rotated up to 359 degrees via a rotation knob. The ergonomically designed handset provides one-handed operation of grasping, rotation and cutting. Sealing occurs by ratcheting the handle and activating through the purple button on the device or through the LigaSure footswitch.

LigaSure Technology
Delivering performance beyond expectations
Across the range of products and procedures, LigaSure technology delivers a unique combination of pressure and energy to create a consistent seal with each application.
- Provides a combination of pressure and energy to create vessel fusion
- Permanently fuses vessels up to and including 7 mm in diameter and tissue bundles without dissection or isolation
- Average seal cycle is 2 to 4 seconds, when used with the ForceTriad energy platform
- Seals withstand three times normal systolic blood pressure
- Feedback-controlled response system automatically discontinues energy delivery when the seal cycle is complete, eliminating the guesswork
LigaSure instruments have been found to:
- Have the highest burst pressure, fastest sealing time and were highest rated overall compared to Gyrus PK, Harmonic ACE and ENSEAL
- Reduce blood loss compared to sutures and clips
- Reduce procedure time compared to sutures
- Reduce patient length of stay compared to sutures
Compared to mechanical ligation techniques, LigaSure technology has been shown to:
- Significantly reduce operative blood loss in colorectal, gynecologic and urologic surgery
- Significantly reduce perioperative blood transfusions in gynecologic, urologic and general surgery
- Significantly reduce procedure time in colorectal, gynecologic and urologic surgery
- Significantly reduce length of hospital stay in gynecologic and urologic surgery
Compared to other energy-based modalities, LigaSure technology has been shown to:
- Significantly reduce operative blood loss in colorectal and gynecologic surgery
- Significantly reduce procedure time in colorectal and gynecologic surgery
LigaSure – Output Power versus Resistance for LigaSure Power
- Output power (watts)
- Load resistance (ohms)
Note: The LigaSure Vessel Sealing algorithm is a vessel adaptive algorithm. The LigaSure Vessel Sealing algorithm only requests the power it needs to optimally seal vessels; the power requested will be within the confines of the output power capability curve. Presentation of the “half output control setting” per IEC 60601-2-2 is not required.

What is TissueFect Sensing Technology?
TissueFect sensing technology is the control system for the ForceTriad energy platform, designed to precisely manage energy delivery, creating a range of options for desired tissue effect. TissueFect sensing technology monitors changes in tissue impedance 3,333 times a second, and adjusts energy output accordingly to deliver the appropriate amount of energy for the desired tissue effect.
What is LigaSure Tissue Fusion?
LigaSure vessel sealing technology has been updated and improved in the ForceTriad energy platform, controlled by TissueFect sensing technology. LigaSure tissue fusion, like LigaSure vessel sealing, uses the bodys own collagen and elastin to create a permanent fusion zone. This technology can fuse vessels up to and including 7 mm, lymphatics, tissue bundles and pulmonary vasculature, and has an average seal cycle of two to four seconds in most surgical situations.
