Monosof/Dermalon Monofilament Nylon Sutures

Monosof and Dermalon reverse cutting needles feature tri-coined, reverse cutting edges for use in dense connective tissue and skin. The cutting edge is on the convex surface of the needle arc, facilitating needle passage while minimizing tissue cut-through. Premium reverse cutting needles are made exclusively of Surgalloy material for added strength and ductility.

Monosof and Dermalon monofilament nylon sutures are inert, non-absorbable, sterile surgical sutures. Monosof sutures are available either dyed black, with Logwood extract, or undyed and Dermalon is available dyed blue to provide visibility. Nylon sutures are used in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including use in cardiovascular, ophthalmic, and neurological surgery.

Monosof Monofilament Nylon Sutures

Monosof monofilament nylon sutures are inert, non-absorbable, sterile surgical sutures, which are available either dyed black, with Logwood extract, or undyed (clear).

The advanced extrusion process of the nylon molecule gives the suture:

  • Uniform diameter
  • Maximum flexibility of the strand
  • Excellent security with snug and flattened knots
  • Minimal memory
  • Excellent and consistent knotting strength

Monosof sutures are used in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including use in cardiovascular, ophthalmic, and neurological surgery.

Indications

DERMALON and MONOSOF monofilament nylon sutures are indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including use in cardiovascular, ophthalmic, and neurological surgery.

Contraindications

Due to the gradual loss of tensile strength which may occur over prolonged periods in vivo, nylon sutures should not be used where permanent retention of tensile strength is required.

Actions

Both DERMALON and MONOSOF monofilament nylon sutures elicit a minimal acute inflammatory reaction in tissue, which is followed by gradual encapsulation of the suture by fibrous connective tissue.

Tensile Strength

As with any nylon suture, though not absorbed, progressive hydrolysis of the suture, in vivo, may result in gradual loss of its tensile strength over time.

Sterilization

DERMALON and MONOSOF monofilament nylon sutures are sterilized by ethylene oxide or gamma irradiation.

Packaging

DERMALON monofilament nylon sutures are available dyed blue with FD&C Blue No. 2 in sizes 2-0 (3 Metric) through 60 (0.7 metric). MONOSOF monofilament nylon sutures are available either clear (undyed) or dyed black with Logwood extract, in sizes 2 (5 Metric) through 110 (0.1 Metric). Both sutures are supplied sterile, in pre-cut lengths affixed to needles using permanent needle attachment techniques.
