- Lancets are for a single use only and hence must be disposed of after one employment.
- Lancing device must be cleaned after every use.
- Used lancets must be disposed of properly.
- Cleaning the puncture site before the procedure is also essential.
- Use a metallic sharps container to collect the used lancets that can be purchased from a nearby pharmacy.

- Never use a disposable lancet for more than once.
- Never share a single lancing device for different patients.
